Ruhama Hendrickson

Born October 22, 1926
Died August 13, 2010

Leon (Lonnie) and Ruhama Hendrickson were buried in their reserve southwest of Section 19.  Lonnie came from humble beginnings as a farmer before joining the US Navy at the age of 17 to fight in World War II. On his first leave home he married Ruhama Rhoades and rejoined his ship to finish out the war.  After the war, he returned to Winchester and continued farming and served as a substitute rural mail carrier.  He also started several businesses, such as the skating rink, while still working on the farm.  He operated the Rainbow Restaurant in Winchester for 20 years.  While operating the Rainbow Restaurant, he became fascinated with coin collecting.  He started a small coin shop above the Rainbow Restaurant and began showing his coins at local coin shows.

His hobby soon became a full-time profession.  He moved the "Winchester Coin Shop" to the basement of his home, and it soon became known as "Sliver Towne".  The business expanded into not only rare coins, but also silver and gold bullions, coins and bars.  Silver Towne soon became too large for his basement and moved to a beautiful 2 story building that he built next to his home.  Ruhana developed part of the shop for jewelry and collectibles, while Lonnie continued the coin, silver and gold exchange.  Silver Towne is still in operation but does not have the jewelry and collectibles.  They have the Silver Towne Mint on Greenville Avenue where they make their bars and bullions.  Lonnie lived by the saying, "Make new friends but keep the old.  One is liver and the other is gold."
