Captain Charles Edwin Engle was a graduate of Lynn High School and Purdue University.  He as a member of the ROTC program and entered the Air Force after graduation.  He began his tour on August 29, 1969, and died on his second tour through hostile action, air crash on land while a member of the Laos Special Forces, Ravens on February 22,  1971.  He was an American Gold Star casualty and received a Purple Heart.  A section of Highway 27 going through Lynn, IN is dedicated to his memory.
